EXchange on Archaeological Research and Communication
EXARC is the international organisation of Archaeological Open Air Museums and Experimental Archaeology. It is our aim to establish a high standard of both scientific research and public presentation. The idea of international exchange of knowledge, human resources, publications
and facsimiles is to improve the quality of work for all associated members. It is not our intention to exclude anyone who does not meet our high standards concerning the quality of museums work. We rather want to encourage and incorporate other institutions conducting Experimental Archaeology and help them to a higher level.
EXARC is an affiliated organisation to ICOM,
the International Council of Museums.
We represent archaeological open air museums
and experimental archaeology in the international museum circles.
EXARC is the international organisation of Archaeological Open Air Museums (AOAM) and Experimental Archaeology.
EXARC is a network of professionals, those in archaeological open air museums as well as in experimental archaeology. We exchange
experience, tips & tricks and best practice and are working on
better quality for the people involved, their (experimental) work
and archaeological open air museums in general.
Become a Member of EXARC
With members everywhere, we can ensure an exchange of knowledge, experience and best practice. Themes cover not only public
archaeology, experimental archaeology, skills, living history and
interpretation, but also exchange of staff, dialogue with visitors,
marketing & communication and of course museum management.
EXARC members form
a mutually supportive network.
Small as well as large scale cooperation within the association are organised individually to ensure a better success. Since its beginning, EXARC has initiated a number of international projects, some of which were funded by the European Union. New ideas are developed
continuously and are discussed by the members of EXARC.
You can read about our present cooperation projects online.
EuroREA (established 2004)
is a discussion platform for the exchange
of experience and information in all aspects
of archaeological experiment, (re)construction,
the use of models in education as well as live interpretation including ‘living history’.
