Bio

Avalon Archaeology hosts reconstruction buildings of the Iron Age, Roman and Saxon periods. The Iron Age roundhouse is based on evidence from Glastonbury Lake Village. The Roman building is a recreation of a typical winter dining room of a Roman villa from Somerset with working hypocaust, frescoes and mosaic floor. The Saxon longhall is based an a late 9th century AD example from King Alfred's estate at Cheddar. A waterline replica Viking trading vessel is a recreation of the Skuldelev 3 wreck from Roskilde (Denmark). There is also the oldest know archaeological excavation hut in the World, purchased in 1910 for the excavation of the Iron Age settlement of Meare Lake Village. https://swheritage.org.uk/avalon-archaeology/
