EXARC's Online Events - “Caught in the Middle: Roman Construction, Between Experimental Archaeology and Cultural Mediation”

The first EXARC online event will take you back to ancient Rome with Nicolas Revert, treasurer of Fabri Tignuarii and archaeologist at the Preventive Archaeology Service of Metz Métropole.

Through the work of the Fabri Tignuarii association, this online event will explore the different approaches to Roman construction in experimental archaeology and cultural mediation. Bringing together craftsmen and scientists, the association conducts both strict archaeology-driven experiments — such as the reconstruction of a Pompeian millstone — and public engagement events held in museums and archaeological sites across France.

This presentation will examine the methods, aims, and limits of these two complementary practices. While experimental archaeology follows rigorous scientific protocols to better understand ancient techniques and labour, public engagement events focus on cultural mediation, interaction with the audience and the visual experience of Roman building practices.

The event is open to everyone and can be joined via this link: the link will be available before May 31.

Join us and spread the word, experimental archaeology has never been easier to access !
