Latvijas Arheoklubs is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting archaeology, cultural heritage, and experimental archaeology in Latvia. Founded in 2015, the society brings together professionals, students, and enthusiasts to explore the human past through hands-on practice and public engagement. Latvijas Arheoklubs organises educational workshops, lectures, archaeological field trips, and public demonstrations, with a strong focus on experimental techniques such as flint knapping, bronze casting, and prehistoric crafts. Since its foundation, the organisation has coordinated the Baltic Experimental Archaeology Summer School and actively collaborates with museums, universities, and local communities to raise awareness of archaeological heritage and its relevance today.
Main initiative by the Latvijas Arheoklubs is a community-based project in Lucavsala Island to create a functioning archaeological park in the urban environment of Riga, aiming to combine experimental archaeology, urban gardening, and cultural heritage education. Located in Lucavsala, the initiative establishes an open-air workshop and community space where participants can engage in practical activities such as flint knapping, bronze casting, ancient crafts, and hands-on exploration of the past.
The project promotes an environmentally friendly approach by linking ancient technology research with the maintenance of urban meadows and raising awareness of cultural heritage. The initiative is open to the public, with a special focus on youth engagement, informal learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
