Lloyd has ten years experience using experimental archaeology methodologies to explore questions around technology/tool use and bone, antler and tooth economies in the Viking Age and Early Medieval Ages. Various projects have resulted in the production of a number of reconstructions and accompanying data regarding processes, for example the use of drills.

Additional interests include amulets and talismans and the archaeology of Tafl games and their gaming components. Lloyd has significant expertise in the use of deer antler and regularly reconstructs artefacts.
