I am an experimental archaeologist specialized on the Stone-Age.
I obtained my PhD in 2011 (Nanterre, Fr.) and held several postdoctoral and teaching positions. My research, using a detailed techno-typological approach, has focused on lithic assemblages from the Middle-to-Upper Palaeolithic transition in Western Europe.
Since 2022, I am running my own company “Paleocraft and Skills”, based in the Netherlands, specialized in prehistoric crafting and particularly flintknapping (stone-tool production).
With 20 years of experience in flintknapping, I am currently involved in several European research projects covering time periods from the Lower Palaeolithic to the Early Bronze Age. Through the production of experimental lithic replicas, I've contributed to research on soft-stone percussion in Mousterian Quina contexts (Fr.), on lithic projectile technologies in Howiesons Poort contexts (South-Afr.), on anvil-assisted quartz bladelet production in Robberg contexts (South-Afr.).
I am also producing experimental lithic datasets for students ranging from undergraduate to PhD level.
I am deeply passionate about sharing my expertise and I organize workshops for all skills level, participate in (pre-)historical events, and create high-fidelity archaeological replicas and original items for museums or commission orders.
