EXARC Presentation on Experimental Archaeology at CITCEM, University of Porto

On March 5, Dr. Andrea Mariani, EXARC Board Member, took part in a session of the Oficinas de Investigação organized by CITCEM, a research center of the University of Porto (Portugal). During the meeting, he delivered a talk on the importance of experimental archaeology as a powerful tool for bringing heritage closer to the wider public. He also introduced EXARC, its mission, and its international network, engaging in a fruitful exchange with Portuguese specialists in archaeology and science communication.

Portugal represents a particularly interesting context for the development of experimental archaeology. With its rich archaeological heritage, active research institutions, and growing interest in public engagement with the past, the country offers strong potential for further collaboration and development in the field. Events such as this help strengthen connections between researchers, museums, and practitioners, contributing to the gradual consolidation of experimental archaeology within the Portuguese academic and heritage landscape.

As experimental archaeology in Portugal is still in an early and developing phase, these opportunities for discussion and dissemination, especially within an academic environment, are essential for strengthening the field and raising awareness of its value.
