The South West Heritage Trust conducts a wide range of experimental and experiential archaeological work. Much of this has taken place at the Avalon Archaeology Park, but other projects have also taken place on nearby nature reserves.

The Avalon Archaeology site contains a reconstruction of the winter dining room of a Roman villa (with hypocaust, mosaic floor, frescos etc), a Saxon longhall of the late 9th century AD, a waterline replica of the Skuldelev 3 Viking boat and an Iron Age roundhouse. Also the world’s oldest surviving excavation hut (from 1910).
