Hello! My name is Jacek Nowaczuk. I am an education student, a historical reenactor, and the founder of “Mój wiek XV/My Fifteenth Century”. My main interest lies in the late Middle Ages, particularly the everyday lives of people in Pomerania and the Baltic Sea region. I explore this period through historical sources, practical craftwork, recreating clothing and equipment, and bringing historical roles to life.
Through “Mój wiek XV/My Fifteenth Century”, I run workshops, demonstrations, and talks for people of all ages, from children to older adults. I also lead “Świetlica Rekonstrukcyjna” (Reenactment Youth Club), where schoolchildren discover history through shared projects, play, and practical activities. I especially enjoy those moments when an object, a piece of historical clothing someone tries on, or a simple hands-on task sparks curiosity and leads to meaningful conversations.
A core idea behind my work is that “clothing is the starting point for a role”. When portraying a townsman, a village headman, or a man-at-arms, I look beyond the gear to consider his responsibilities, relationships, and place in society. Right now, I am working on recreating a city guard from the Gdańsk contingent sent to Stockholm in 1395. Alongside this project, I am writing an article about the reconstruction process and how building a historical character can become an opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery.
Studying education gives me a fresh perspective on my passion. I am increasingly fascinated by what reenactment teaches us about ourselves and others—how we tackle challenges, collaborate, learn new skills, and find our place within a group. I am currently bringing these experiences together to explore how living history can inform educational activities focused on personal development.
Within the EXARC community, I am keen to connect with people who blend an interest in the past with educational work. I would love to exchange experiences in heritage interpretation, teaching, and the personal meaning that recreating history holds for us today.
