Call for Participants to the CRAFTs in Antiquity Conference - November 2026

EXARC is happy to share the call for papers of the Connecting Research Approaches to Fabrication and Trades in Antiquity (CRAFTs in Antiquity) conference, hosted by the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Brno from 4–6 November 2026.

This new initiative warmly welcomes both academic researchers and craftspeople interested in offering practical demonstrations or instructed workshops on craft techniques from ancient Europe and the Mediterranean (c. 1000 BCE – 1000 CE). The event aims to bring together scholars and practitioners to celebrate ancient craftworking while fostering the exchange of knowledge and expertise.

While contributions on all aspects of ancient crafts and the lives of craftspeople are encouraged, this first edition will place particular emphasis on metalworking techniques, practices, and products.

The organisers envision CRAFTs in Antiquity as the first in a series of annual gatherings connecting research and hands-on craft practice.

More information on proposals, conference fees, and practical details can be found on the conference website:
