Internship Opportunities at EXARC
EXARC is offering three part-time internships within its communications, outreach, and administrative activities. All internships have a duration of 6 months with a commitment of 4 hours per week. In addition to the two internships within the communications and outreach team, a third internship is available within the finance department, focusing on finance and membership support.
The internships are not paid and are designed as an educational experience, providing hands-on involvement in EXARC’s activities and professional development within an international organization.

Communication Internship: Website & Calendar Management
This internship is part of the EXARC Communication Team and focuses on how archaeological events and news are communicated through the EXARC website.
Main activities include:
Updating and maintaining the EXARC website
Completing and updating the EXARC conference pages
Migrating and rewriting information related to previous EXARC conferences
Writing clear and engaging texts for the website’s news section
Supporting the setup and maintenance of the website calendar
The intern will gain experience in:
Writing communicative and accessible texts for an international archaeological audience
Managing digital content related to events and institutional activities
Understanding online communication strategies for cultural heritage organizations
Duration: 6 months

Social Media Internship: Scientific Communication Through Reels
This internship focuses on translating scientific content into short educational videos for EXARC’s social media channels, especially reels. The goal is to make archaeological and experimental archaeology topics accessible and engaging for a broad audience through creative digital storytelling.
Main activities include:
Creating short, educational videos to disseminate archaeological topics to a broad audience
Developing content based on articles from the EXARC Journal
Receiving one article per month and transforming it into engaging video content
Writing scripts based on scientific texts, adapted for a general audience
Filming and editing short-form videos
Adding overlay images and additional video material provided by the authors and the EXARC communication team
Developing a communication plan for video creation, including content planning, target audience identification, and distribution strategy
The intern will gain experience in:
Communicating academic and scientific content to a broader public by translating complex ideas into clear, accessible, and engaging narratives
Educational storytelling through short-form video
Developing social media strategies for archaeology and experimental archaeology, with a focus on audience engagement, visibility, and platform-specific formats
Scriptwriting for science communication, adapting scholarly articles into compelling audiovisual scripts
Video production and editing skills, including filming techniques, timing, and the effective use of editing tools
Integrating visual materials (such as images, footage, and graphics) to support and enrich scientific narratives
Collaborating with researchers and the communication team, getting familiar with interdisciplinary workflows and feedback processes
Gaining a general understanding of how to design and develop a communication plan
Duration: 6 months

Finance & Membership Support Internship
This internship is based within the EXARC finance and administration team and focuses on supporting the organization’s financial and membership-related activities.
Main activities include:
Supporting administrative and financial tasks
Assisting the Membership Manager with the registration and onboarding of new members
Supporting invoice management and basic financial administration
Assisting with member-related enquiries and general member support
Helping maintain accurate membership and financial records
The intern will gain experience in:
Administrative and financial workflows within an international non-profit organization
Membership management and member communication
Basic financial administration and organizational processes
Duration: 6 months
Workload: 4 hours per week
