I am Sean Sullivan, also known as "The Mammoth Hunter". I provide a range of immersive educational programs centered on Upper Paleolithic life. I use experiential archeology to provide a unique, interactive experience that engages participants through the use of authentic and replica Stone Age tools, fossils and demonstrations of primitive skills such as fire-making, tool use, and foraging techniques.
I am fascinated by the daily lives of ancient peoples. I spend a lot of time researching newly published finds and papers in an effort to keep as up to date as possible with the newest discoveries. Through independent study I replicate and use a wide range of prehistoric skill sets including flint knapping, friction fire, tanning, hand sewing, fiber arts, foraging, atlatl & archery, and much more. My current skill set has taken me more than 20 years to acquire. Even so, I tell students I am likely at the level of a 7-year-old in the Paleolithic.
My traveling museum is fully mobile. I move from location to location, bringing students the opportunity to experience a glimpse of ancient life that might otherwise be out of reach. When I do a program I wrap up the presentation portion with an opportunity for the audience to come up and take a up-close, hands-on look at much of the display. Giving people, especially younger school age children the chance to examine the tools, and fossils they just learned about really plants the seeds of curiosity in a way that just can’t be duplicated.
Happy to mentor and share my experience in the following skills
Bone/antler, Leatherwork and tanning, Stone, Weapons
