Call for Papers: PunTex International Seminar on Experimental Textile Archaeology - September 2026

EXARC is pleased to share that the PunTex International Seminar, Weaving Knowledge: Experimental Textile Archaeology Between Practice and Method, will take place on 25–26 September 2026 at the University of Cyprus Campus in Nicosia, Cyprus. The seminar is organised by Nina Ferrante (University of Cyprus) and Francisco B. Gomes (University of Lisbon) as part of the PunTex Project, which focuses on textile production in Phoenician-Punic culture between the 9th and 2nd centuries BCE.

The event provides a space for dialogue and discussion among scholars working in experimental archaeology applied to textile production. It will explore shared principles, comparable practices, and transferable methods across Europe, while respecting the diversity of research traditions.

Contributions are welcome on topics including fibre processing, spinning, dyeing, weaving, loom reconstruction, and tool experimentation, as well as case studies, ongoing projects, laboratory- or practice-based research, and methodological reflections on documentation, reproducibility, and interpretation of experimental results.

The deadline for abstract submission is 15 March 2026. Abstracts of 250–300 words, including name, affiliation, and contact email, should be sent to ferrante.nina@ucy.ac.cy.

For full details, please see the Call for Papers poster attached. EXARC encourages circulation of this invitation to colleagues and looks forward to supporting this exciting gathering of experimental textile archaeologists in Nicosia.
