The EXARC Education and Communication Working Group explores how experimental archaeology and open-air museums can support education, interpretation, and meaningful public engagement. The group brings together educators, museum professionals, interpreters, researchers, reenactors, and communicators who are passionate about sharing knowledge of the past with diverse audiences.
Members examine methods of teaching and communication through hands-on learning, demonstrations, storytelling, participatory activities, and digital outreach. The Working Group encourages the development of inclusive and accessible approaches that connect academic research with public understanding and lived experience.
The group also provides a space to exchange ideas about audience engagement, school programmes, interpretation strategies, community involvement, and the evaluation of educational activities. By sharing experiences and best practices, members help strengthen the role of experimental archaeology in both formal and informal learning environments.
The Working Group reflects EXARC’s commitment to making archaeological knowledge engaging, relevant, and accessible to all.
